The City Park neighborhood surrounds the 330-acre Denver City Park, the largest park in Denver. It’s considered to be a low-density neighborhood because most of the area is occupied by the park. Built in 1880 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places, City Park is home to more than 200 residents, and is an attractive area for both families and individuals who wish to live in a quiet area of Denver.
The park itself is the main attraction of the neighborhood and provides endless amusement. It contains the Ferril and Duck Lakes, a boathouse, tennis courts, baseball/football/soccer fields, picnic sites, two playgrounds, and historical monuments. All of this is in addition to the numerous gardens and fountains in the park, as well as a spacious pavilion.
The park is also home to the Denver Zoo, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Gates Planetarium, and an IMAX Theater. In addition to all the rare animal species, the Denver Zoo plays host to many fun activities throughout the year, including Zoo Lights, Zoo Year’s Eve, a Veterans Day Celebration, and a Scout Night. Several classes and programs are also available, from the Photo Safari to the Animal Awareness Day. If you’re in the mood for expanding your knowledge, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science is a highly acclaimed place to do so. The museum has boasted such exhibits as Egyptian Mummies, Gems and Minerals, Space Odyssey, Wildlife Exhibits and Prehistoric Journey, while temporary exhibits such as Mythic Creatures, The Power of Poison, Sherlock Holmes, and Chocolate have also provided intrigue. Further entertainment is provided during the summer concert series, which is free and consists primarily of jazz music. Food trucks also come out, providing delicious tastes of various types of cuisine. To cap it all off, the City Park Golf Course is on the north side of the park. With all of these different entertainment options, residents of this area have a front row seat to some of the best attractions in the state.
There are also many premium restaurants in the area such as Mezcal, which provides classic Mexican food and an extensive selection of tequilas and delicious salsas. If you’re in the mood for Thai, Tommy’s Thai offers great food at great prices, as evidenced by their tasty crab cheese wontons.
Premium local shopping is also available and includes the iconic Twist & Shout record store, and the Denver-based Tattered Cover bookstore. Twist & Shout has one of the most complete vinyl collections around, including the rarities that are seldom found elsewhere. They also have listening stations set up around the store so that patrons can get a feel for the music before purchasing. This is a great, growing area for hip local businesses.
The City Park area is bordered by 23rd Ave. (north), Colorado Blvd. (east), Colfax Ave. (south), and York St. (west). This convenient location makes for an easy commute to the downtown Denver area.

Architecture in the area runs the gamut from historically classic to new and modern. The area is made up of “Denver Square”, Victorian, mission, and ranch style homes. Duplexes and townhomes are also available in the area. As part of a population expansion initiative, City Park has been building apartment complexes and custom condominiums with incredible views. Prices typically start around $300,000 and increase from there.
